Looked-After Children
Working with looked-after and adopted children, particularly when their needs are complex, severe or enduring is stressful and emotionally difficult. Reports and serious case reviews have highlighted how this can impact on the ability of individuals and services to work effectively.
NSCAP’s experience is that what helps in these circumstances is a focus on reflective practice, supervision, in-depth understanding of child development and continuous professional development. Together, these approaches can help break the escalating cycle of difficulties that occur for many looked-after children and services.
For further information about NSCAP's work in this area please contact our Looked-After Children Lead, Stuart Hannah.
Northern Looked-After Children Forum
The Northern LAC Forum is open to anyone who works with children in the care of local authorities or who are adopted. The forum is organised by NSCAP and meets quarterly.
The aim of the forum is to bring together people who work with looked-after children including professionals and managers from education, health, social care and the family courts. The forum will support service improvements and will encourage participation from looked-after children themselves, adult care-leavers and foster carers. The Forum will encourage inter-agency and inter-disciplinary collaboration; showcasing good practice, and developing research projects in all aspects of work with looked-after children.
See the News page for details of the next Forum.
In addition to the quarterly meetings you can now subscribe to the online Forum.
