Working in Groups: Theory and Practice

We are pleased to be able to offer a continuing program of Friday CPD seminars which are designed to develop and support the on-going practice of group analytic group work in the NHS and Voluntary sector in the north of England. These seminars are a collaboration between the Institute of Group Analysis, the Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and the Leeds and York NHS Foundation Trust.  Group analysis is a method of psycho-analytic psychotherapy wherein the group itself is developed as the medium of therapy.

These seminars will offer the opportunity for group practitioners to examine a wide range of topics related to the practice of analytic group psychotherapy in the current climate. We will also explore contemporary developments in group theory.

There will be 6 seminars between September 2017 and March 2018. The seminars run from 2.00-5.00pm. The first part of the afternoon will consist of a theory seminar with discussion of relevant papers. The topics covered will take account of experience and work contexts. The second part of the afternoon will focus on clinical group work practice in a  small group setting where members can present aspects of their work for discussion.

These seminars are open to group analysts, group psychotherapists, and all health service professionals, with an interest in therapeutic, team and/or organisational group work.
