Training

A Training Skills Escalator

Our aim is to offer opportunities for people to develop their skills, starting with short introductory courses through to clinical training and specialist continuing professional development. The courses are aimed at professionals from a wide range of services including social care, education, psychology, medicine, nursing and health visiting. These courses extend the individual's capacity to understand and withstand the emotional demands of their work and to offer a better service to their clients.

The Personality Development series is a good access point for people interested in the psychoanalytic approach to human development. The series of 7 seminars takes place once a year in Leeds and once a year in Manchester.

Recent development include a Neuroscience Research Reading and Clinical Discussion Group; a programme in adolescent mental health; and a programme in forensic mental health.

The post-graduate programme Psychoanalytic Observational Studies is available in Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle. This is a part-time course with teaching taking place one day a week in mainly small-group seminars. Many people from a broad range of backgrounds have found this course to be an invaluable part of their professional and personal development.

Completion of a recognised course in Psychoanalytic Observational Studies is a pre-requisite for those wishing to apply for the Clinical Training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy which is provided by NSCAP. The four-year Doctoral level training is NHS funded and includes personal psychoanalysis and a clinical placement with an NHS CAMHS team. Child Psychotherapy trainees must have substantial prior experience of working with children and adolescents.

Details of the latest courses, seminars and workshops are always posted in the News section of this website so it is advisable to check back regularly.
