A ‘couple state of mind' in individual, couple, and parenting consultations
Date: 7 March 2020, Manchester, 9:30am to 2:15pm
Venue: St Thomas Centre, Ardwick Green, Manchester, M12 6FZ
The Transpennine Partnership (TPP) is pleased to host this study event. The concept of a couple state of mind will be described in relation to consultations with couples, parents and individuals. The capacity in the therapist to hold a couple state of mind is seen as part of the therapist’s internal analytic setting. It is suggested that this aspect of the setting can support the elaboration of the meaning of the presenting concerns, increase psychic space and perspective, and foster the continuity of the therapeutic process. Clinical examples from consultations with couples, parents, and individuals will be given
The event speaker is Mary Morgan (Psychoanalyst, consultant couple psychoanalytic psychotherapist and Fellow of the British Psychoanalytical Society), and the event discussant is Leezah Hertzmann (senior couple and individual psychoanalytic psychotherapist at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and in private practice).
